California robotaxis (CPUC)

Paid rides in a self-driving car in California, month by month, from the quarterly reports every permit holder files with the California Public Utilities Commission. A car drives itself, a stranger pays for the ride, and the state counts it — 3,753 trips in March 2022, 1.35 million in June 2026. Only Waymo and Cruise ever held a permit to charge a fare, and Cruise lost its permit in October 2023.

These charts count paid rides only. Before August 2023 a safety driver sat in most of the cars.
