TLDR: I upgraded Github Stats with more data sources and metrics, to see more of AI Impact.
A while back I wanted to see if AI impact is visible just form github stats. So I made Github Stats.
But I'm more curious than that, so I decided to see what other data exists to paint the picture. The requirements are that it's easy to get the numbers, they're first-hand numbers, and they (seem to) show an uptick in the current AI era (call it post ChatGPT).
I found several datasources, like the .ai tld, npm installs of certain packages, arxiv uploads, CloudFlare's stats on what % of global traffic is bots, data from the Beaureau of Labor Statistics, and I'm hoping to find even more (know of some? let me know :)). Would also be interesting to branch out from pure software areas into adjacent ones, like datacenter buildout, electrical grid impacts etc... but that's a bit more involved for now.
I also thought there are numbers that are going up, but also ones that are going down, like StackOverflow questions (famously gone), I think those are also important to include.
After making these first few graphs, the feeling is what I've been saying tongue in cheek to friend for a while... The paperclips are getting louder.
Go see for yourself: AI Impact
